Sad news: 4711 is being discontinued

I do not know if it is old news here on BN but I read today that the production of 4711 has been stopped because no one buys it anymore. It was mostly older women who wore it and when they pass away then the sales decrease............

I thought that the company is not making anymore cause it's up for the best offer, and if somebody buys it, i think the production of the scent will continue, right?
I will stock up in any case.

Let's face it, 4711 was good in its day - but that day was over a full two centuries ago. Nowadays, room freshener lasts a lot longer than it does.

Now, if someone were to beef it up a bit, then it would be another story - though still way too feminine for my taste.

P&G are selling the brand, so I guess no-one is actually making 4711 at the moment. I'm pretty sure someone will buy the brand - its a piece of fragrance history.

I'm surprised P&G didn't keep it, as it could go with Old Spice in their collection of classics

and it seems low sales have made them give up on Muellhens. That does not mean it's not up for grabs for anyone with a taste for "conserving" and revamping the house.

well for historical reasons, also cause I lik ecologne the city, I think I should grab some.

there was an interesting article about this designer Oliver Thuyuskens (sic) who was designing for Rochas, P&G ended up owning the company and hoped to sell off the ready to wear line but keep the fragrance line and so OT is out of a job and the last line he did was never realized/shown/sold

As usual, there may be a potential buyer holding back at the moment. It is a matter of price in the end. I doubt that they are making losses. The Muelhens Family, wealthy before, made a lot of money selling 4711. P&G were no amateurs, and for a German entity, to continue running the shop with 40 employees (that all it takes) must still be attractive. Curse to our one world, run by a few Giants, plastic money, Hamburger King and Coca Cola ! 'If you cannot compete with them - smash them', on their banner...
And for us - will it be P&G or Coty to choose from in the end?
