$100,000 Chanel Heist in Miami

I can't speak for any of the other South Florida basenoters, but I can account for my whereabouts at the time in question...

Cuban Fragrance House

A student just returning from a visit to Cuba brought back a Cuban perfume as a gift to a colleague of mine here in Miami - the fragrance is called Alicia (for women) and the house is Suchel Camacho,...

Re: Santa maria novella nostalgia

To each his own I guess. I can't take the powdery dry-down in Miami heat and humidity... The top and middle notes are pretty amazing, though...

Re: Santa maria novella nostalgia

Nostalgia is a powerhouse and a gem, but doesn't work well in warm, muggy climates. For me, CdG Garage is more wearable. The powdery drydown of Nostalgia, although pleasantly "rubber-ish", is...

Re: Tuscany By Aramis

Tuscany Forte is better, in my opinion - deeper, longer-lasting, more sillage, etc., but the original is excellent, too...

Re: The Best Scent in the Hugo Boss Line?

Put me down for Elements... although Number One and Baldessarini are quite nice, too

Re: Not-too-sweet orientals?

I'd recommend Anvers (original)... and would second the Tiffany for Men and Pasha de Cartier suggestions. Happy hunting...

Re: Original Cool Water - Not the same!

I noticed the exact same thing when I got a small 1.0 oz bottle recently... at first I thought it was fake because the type font had changed. But now I'm inclined to believe that they reformulated it...

Re: Grass and summer smells.

I think all of these have been mentioned in various posts, but for what it's worth, I'd say:

1. CK Truth - extreme grass
2. L'Artisan Navegar - elegant grass
3. Diptyque Virgilio - funky grass...

Re: Basenotes is 8 Years Old

Congrats, Grant! And to all of us, in fact... It's always nice to know that Basenotes is here, even if some of us don't check in as much as we used to. The site has come a long way, and the...

Re: Comme des Garcons - Top 5 Faves

CDG 3 (a gem - one of my all-time favorites)
Avignon (reminds me of last year's Morrissey concert)
Garage (similar to, but with a better drydown than SMN Nostalgia)
Odeur 71 (much prefer this to...

Re: Fresh Erolfa on Discount

I got a bottle on eBay quite some time ago... it's legit and still smells fresh.

I've had a bottle of Himalaya and another of GIT from Scentiments that went "off" quickly after purchase... that's...

Re: Your most complimented frags this year from the opposite sex

Most intense recent compliment: Bombay Sapphire Infusion -- A group of several women came into my office one day to find out what I was wearing. I wasn't in at the time, but I'm told that they hung...

Re: Shelf life: Creed vs everybody else

This is why I prefer 1.0oz bottles when I can get them for a decent price. I had a 2.5oz bottle of Hiimalaya that was only a few months old go bad not long ago, so I basically ate $80-$90 on that...

Re: Tiffany for Men

I recently received a bottle of TfM as a gift. Having sampled it before in a Tiffany shop, I thought that it wasn't necessarily my cup of tea as I'm not normally an "Oriental" kind of guy, but this...

Cool Re: Sunglasses?

I've got a bit of a sunglass fetish. My current faves are my Giorgio Armani 1545's... nice black temples, with rimless black rectangular lenses that go well with my features... can't find them for...

Re: Why I want to become a perfumer (Reason 1)

That's a nice story - unfortunately, doing the same thing on the Metrorail here in Miami would probably get you insulted and accused of trying to poison the woman... Sad, but true...

Re: Aqua Di Gio -vs- L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme

I like them both... but to add to the confusion (or refine our abilities to distinguish compostions, if you prefer), compare them with Truefitt & Hill 1805 and Inis. The four of these are similar...

Re: My Creed Erolfa dilemma

I'm certain that there's some variation in Creed "vintages" of Erolfa, among others. My first sample vials of Erolfa came from Parfums Raffy and smelled somewhat different than the full-sized...

Re: Never received a compliment!

Depends on how demonstrative people tend to be where you live, too -- in Miami I regularly get complimented on my fragrances. Then again, it seems like nearly everyone here wears them, very often to...

If you don't mind spending $125, you can sign up for the Fragrance Foundation's "Certified Fragrance Sales Specialist" program as an "Independent". Frivolous, perhaps, particularly for those of us...
