Re: Shalimar Bubble Bath/Shower Gel

The shower gel is wonderful. And even better is the body cream (not lotion), which is very expensive and worth every penny. The body cream smells more like the old Shalimar. The fragrance last all...

Re: New Dior Packaging & Reformulations

I have both old and new Diorella. After the top notes have settled down, they are VERY similar even though the ingredients are different. (No moss of any kind in the new.) I am pleasantly surprised...

Re: Favorite creamy florals?

Osmanthe Yunnan (Hermes) is an excellent choice. I also like Tocade (Rochas), a creamy floral with amber. Ivoire (Balmain) is pretty, but it turns sour on me. It does not take that turn on others, so...

Chanels are elegant and Guerlains are sexy.

Re: Delightfully Unchanged Favorites....

I still recognize Mitsouko, Shalimar & Diorella. They have changed over the years, but they still are worth owning. (I fear for Chanel No 5 now that I have a "new improved" bottle of Cristalle.)

Re: This year I finished -- 2009

Finished & replaced Mitsouko, Shalimar, Diorella, Cristalle, Odalisque & Sacrebleu. Won't be replacing Odalisque or Sacrebleu again due to reformulations. Probably won't replace Cristalle again for...

Vanillin is also on the "hit list". What's left?

Re: Rive Gauche...

It has changed, but I wore it when I was 18yrs old. And, believe me, no older person wore it because it was so "over the top" at that time. If you like it, wear it. Life is too short to worry about...

Re: Reformulated Fragrance List

I am sad about Cristalle. It took me so long to be able to wear her. She was a lean, mean bitch, but now she seems old & exhausted. Has anyone tried the Au Vert?

Re: Reformulated Fragrance List

I am hoping that I bought "fake" Joy on Ebay. (I never thought that I would say THAT!) I got my hands on a bottle that is older (not vintage) that is very different. The lemony bottle has a strange...

Re: Your "I want it I want it!" list

L'Artisan Dzing which has disappeared from their website. And Chergui from Serge Lutens.

Re: What was the first fragrance you bought after joing basenotes?

Mitsouko. I can't believe that I missed that one when I was young & "doing Guerlain". And, thanks to Basenotes, I discovered Habanita which I love even when it smells like cannabis!

Re: um Who are you!?

Ah, I must be "doing it wrong", because the Hermes people in Boston & NYC are supercilious...in a very "Pretty Woman" way.

Re: Basenotes...The Fragrance (AKA Pong Idol)

Congrats! I think that it's so important for people who love perfume to produce perfume. I doubt that Proctor & Gamble really care if the true spirit of Joy is continued. They just want to know that...

Re: Which fragrance for Sister in law?

I love the idea of samples with a gift certificate. I would love to get something like that. L'artisan has the most beautifully done samples!

Re: The Fruity Chypre

I love Basenotes as much as I love fruity chypres! There are so many mentioned here that I need to try. Colony has been on my list for a long time. Maybe it is time to try it. I hope I can find it....

Re: News from Sweden: co-worker attacked over perfume

I wear perfume with abandon. Some days the thought of putting on perfume is the only reason I can get out of bed to go to work. I also have made the announcement that if a particular fragrance...

Re: Reformulated Fragrance List

I have some decent news about the new Diorella with the oval white label. After an initial blast of lemon (not bergamot, a note that I love), "Auntie Di" is still in there. She may not be quite...

Smile Re: Reformulated Fragrance List

Chanel No 5 never was floral in the way that Joy is floral. I could never quite sort out the jasmine and rose notes; they were just little pieces of the beautiful puzzle. I don't know if it is the...

Re: Classic vs. Modern

I love the classics. Parfums de Nicolai was on my radar as the epitome of "modern classic" with Odalisque (pre reformulation) and Sacrebleu. But now that this perfume house has embraced the "new...

Re: Reformulated Fragrance List

My old sample of La Haie Fleurie and my new sample are very different. (Stock up on jasmine as though your life depends on it!) The "bigger bottle" seems to be an indication. First, the fragrance is...

Re: IFRA restrictions - which has you most worried/stocking up?

Hey, Indie Guy! If you ever start making perfume for sale, let me know. And I think that you may be on to the truth about cost cutting being the real reason for all of this change. T

Re: IFRA restrictions - which has you most worried/stocking up?

Thank you for that. I just hope that the future of perfume is not filled with food fragrances now that fruit fragrances are out! I guess I am a dinosaur from another era :)
