Re: Fragrance Struggles..

Guerlain, simply because I always had an aversion to vanilla. I liked Jicky from the start, because the the civet nicely countered the vanilla, and Vetiver gave me no problems, obviously. The...

Re: Close, concentrated sprays vs. spread out sprays

I always use close, concentrated sprays. The "slow burn" effect means you can get away with using far less, for a longer and more satisfactory sillage. Using this method I get satisfactory...

Re: Cumin prominent scents

It's the Intense version that features cumin - I can discern no cumin in the regular version.

Kingdom is heavy on cumin, but I must admit I found it dissapointingly thin, watery even.

I think...

Re: Glamorous scents

You say you're not afraid of feminines and flowers? Try Fracas (go easy on the sprays) and Bandit - these two Germaine Cellier beauties are the epitome of classic, decadent glamour.

Re: The smell of Musk flavored Life Savers?

For a long time, Musk Lifesavers, and other musk flavoured confectionary (lollies, as we call them in Australia) such as musk sticks were my reference for musk. When someone said a perfume contained...

Re: Describe the fragrance you are looking for in 2009

The perfect white floral, featuring in particular, orange blossom/jasmine/tuberose. Not a floral oriental, I don't want flowers drowning in vanilla. It may be something new that I've never tried...

Re: Greatest Contemporary Classic among mainstream masculines

I disagree, contemporary is a relative term, I don't think it necessarily just means "recent releases". I found it hard to reconcile some of the options with the term "classic"; for that reason I...

Re: The one you cannot stand

Joop! Homme is my oldest nemesis.

Followed closely by Le Male, Pi, the Dreamer.

Not far behind are Dolce and Gabanna pour homme and the One.

Vanilla, obviously, doesn't work for me.

Re: True Magic in a Perfume: Eau Sauvage

I'll put in another good word for Fraîcheur Cuir. I do like the original, but the almost-impossible-to-find Fraîcheur Cuir is beautiful - somehow it reminds me of the smell of old paper money...

Re: Favorite Classic

Eau d'Hermès
Bandit
Fracas
Jicky parfum

There are quite a few that don't qualify because of the pre-1970 criteria, but I would not hesitate to include as classics, e.g. Azzaro pour Homme, eau...

Re: Frag for Fiji : Any suggestions?

I bought Eau des Merveilles in Hawaii and whenever I wear it I am instantly transported back to Waikiki, pineapple cocktails, a very Brady holiday, I mean "vacation"... heaven... Anyway, the salty,...

Re: citrus heavy, come get me!

Eau de Cartier is refreshingly sour citrus/woods/violet leaf, and quite light.

Re: Cartier's Declaration: Can I get some woodies here?

I agree. It's particularly the presence of cumin that adds a leathery spiciness to the woods of Declaration. I would add to the list Eau Sauvage Fraîcheur Cuir and Timbuktu. And even, as a...

Re: Scents other than fragrances that you love

I love the smell of a French patisserie, and like many others, the smell of fresh coffee, as well as the rich fragrance of dark chocolate and the comforting smell of pencil shavings. But one of my...

Re: Lily of the Valley

Passage d'Enfer - I'm wearing it today - specifically because today is the first day of Spring here in the southern hemisphere, and the scent of lily of the valley seemed like the perfect thing.

Re: POLL : "Dissecting Diptyque" your selection of the best of Dyptique scents

Isn't there a Santal candle which is meant to complement Tam Dao? I love Diptyque fragrances. They often get accused of being too linear, but I kind of like that about them. I extol that kind of...

Re: Funniest Quote from a Review

Re: Real Incense vs Burned Incense

"Incense" as a note or theme or name for fragrances is about as descriptive as the word "wood" or "musk" or "fruity" or "leather".

Re: What smells of leather and cardamon?

Though most people associate cumin with Eau d'Hermès, I've always thought it's as much, if not more, about cardamom (and other spices) than cumin. It is one of those scents that is much loved, but...

Re: Which are your favorite Chypres?

Bel Ami; Bandit; Comme des Garçons 2 Man; Etro Palais Jamais.

I don't think it's technically a chypre, but it's definitely a "leather", and so falls into a related category: Eau d'Hermès; one of...

Re: Money paper smell? (I like the fragance of new bills)

I've heard that that characteristic smell of paper money comes from the sweat that's soaked into from changing so many human hands. But then you're talking about "new" bills.

Anyhow, I agree with...
