Re: Replacing Monsieur de Givenchy

TB,

give jicky or mouchoir de monsieur a try. more fougere than chypre, but with a similar elegant, vintage, animalic vibe. jicky will likely be easier to track down than MdM.

someone mentioned...

Re: Essenza di Zegna Summer

Strong similarities to issey's eau bleue fraiche and to a lesser degree givenchy PH Blue. in other words, cold, fresh, herbal, but not an aquatic cliche and worth trying.

Burberry London Special Edition & Issey On The Rock

haven't seen much chatter on this so thought i would pass on.

tried the new London at my local Macy's as i worship the original London and was curious about what this new take was like.

it is a...

Re: Why is Azzaro PH a hit in Europe?

I also think that one of the basic reasons is that the current trend in the US for the past decade has been for fresh scents. The young(er) generation (<40 yo) in the US buys stuff from the...

Re: Can any of these fragrances be worn in summer?

1) - borderline yes, although more of a temperate, cool-ish weather juice IMO
2) - definitely yes
3) - yes for non-intense version, intense version may be a bit of a stretch
4) - top notes yes,...

Vam Cleef & Arpels PH. Gave myself a blast after not having touched a bottle for a while. God save us.

Re: Dior's Fahrenheit 32 review

F32 is just weird. It smells like Dior lopped off the top notes of their own "Higher" (synthetic, bright, pear-y fresh) and grafted them on to a cheap vanilla base. The resulting mix is confused,...

Re: Which do you prefer: Arpege PH or Polo Double Black

Don't find much similarity between the two. Double Black is leaning towards gourmand, while Arpege is leaning towards a floral feminine.

I find Arpege more original, but in the two years that I've...

Re: Question about Kouros Eau d'Ete

seconded. eau d'ete is basically indistinguishable from Cologne Sport... and is much more powerful than Tattoo.

Re: The Nasty Woody Oriental

Lucius, if you want an even more palatable version of an oriental you already like, try Jaipur Fraicheur -- it preserves the essence of Jaipur, but is cooler and lighter -- and almost completely...

Re: Disappointing Year For Frangrances?

What about Kenzo's Power?

I find it a quite extraordinary release -- very, very subtle and beautifully balanced... and thoroughly orignal, while to some extent having roots in Dior Homme...

Re: Givenchy Pi VS LInstant de Guerlain

LOL. talk about setting a high bar :-)

I agree. I think Pi is a suffocating, vulgar, and all-round dreadful diabetes-inducing juice that you could only wear on a very small number of occasions.

Re: What fragrance would Count Dracula wear?

Without a doubt, Gucci PH1. Come on - pencil shavings and incense - it's a no-contest. It's probably the way the count smells right after stepping out of his camphorous wooden coffins anyway.

Re: A Tribute to Jacques Cavallier Male Scents.

It would appear that Mr. Cavallier thinks otherwise. follow this link:

Re: A Tribute to Jacques Cavallier Male Scents.

I think that creating something that is both strikingly original (like Miyake) and wildly successful makes him a double genius. Would you hold back on praise for Mozart because he's popular?

Re: Suggestions for a new frag

I am not sure I agree with some of the other recommendations here. Burberry London for someone who likes Fendi and Aramis? It sounds to me like you prefer strong, retro fougere / chypre type...

Re: I need an absolute sillage MONSTER!

Jil Sander - Sander Man.

Its minty, woody assault will grab you by the hair, penetrate your lungs, suck out every molecule of moisture in your being, and then fly away screaming like a banshee in...

Re: Grey Flannel is cheap...Smells cheap?

I consider GF a wonderfully dark, melancholic and soothing scent. Its dense, dry green-ness makes it perfect for cool, rainy-day weather.

I don't think of it as "fresh" in the conventional sense...

Re: Hanae Mori masculine or unisex?

Easily unisex. Arguably more feminine than masculine, in fact, if one were to apply the "rules" of what constitutes fem vs masc.

Re: Do you put fragance before to sleep?

Comfortable, retro scents that just smell good. e.g., halston 1-11, a dash of Rive Gauche.

sometimes Kenzo l'Eau in hot weather.

I don't really like going to bed enveloped in a cloud of strong...

Re: A Tribute to Jacques Cavallier Male Scents.

Didn't he also do Acqua di Gio?

Anyway - I think Cavallier is a genius. L'Eau d'Issey is a work of genius and amazing subtlety and imagination. In the 15 years that have followed there still isn't...

Re: Kouros Eau D'Ete Summer Frag 2005

almost indistinguishable from Kouros Cologne Sport. look up the reviews for the latter and you'll get a good feel for what it's like.

cheers.
