Re: Lily of the Valley

Laura Tonatto's Oltre is unisex fragrance with a very distinct muguet note - it's an accord of aquatics, pine, seaweed, and muguet, all four notes readily distinguishable to my nose. The muguet is...

Re: Found my perfect Amber

It's tied as my favorite, too! I also adore Ambre Russe, but it's apples and oranges.

I'd advise anyone who likes Ambre Narguile to at least try Back To Black.

Re: Longevity issues with Domenico Caraceni?

I found it lasted about average on my skin, but the sillage is light and transparent.

Re: Bois d' Iris: is it me or is the king naked?

I find this to be one of the weakest fragrances of all time. Spray it on, and as soon as my wrist dries, it's gone! Poof.

Those pleasant few seconds aren't worth it for me.

Re: Paestum Rose, wow!

This was me and Paestum Rose. It kind of went from "wow" to "oh, that's nice" through no inherent fault of the fragrance. It has peppery, dry, transparent quality that's really refreshing and unique...

Re: What does cardamom smell like?

Agree with the general consensus that it's so much easier to just go out and smell than to convey in words.

Personally, I love the stuff, use it a lot in cooking, and wish it was used more often...

Re: Other Myrrh / Opoponax Recommendations?

Myrrh! One of my favorite notes. Here are my top picks for myrrh:

Serge Lutens La Myrrhe - bitter, soapy, slightly citrussy aldehydes leading to a dark, medicinal myrrh.

Ayala Moriel Razala -...

Re: First Impressions of Three Tauers

I'm not a fan of either of the first two, but quite liked Une Rose Chypree. If I had to call it something, I'd go for mossy rose oriental. It doesn't smell like a chypre to my nose, but something...

Re: What is the best mediocre fragrance?

Burberry London. The best of the good-enough tobacco fragrances, but nothing amazing.

Re: Fragrance of the Week: Eau d'Italie Magnolia Romana

I very rarely wear this and I'd never buy a full bottle, but it's the most interesting of the aquatic florals I know. To me, it smells like a mixture of cold rain, wet turf, magnolia, black pepper,...

Re: High End Nerolis - please compare

I didn't warm to either, but both were nice if underwhelming.

Neroli Portofino - bright neroli leading to something that smells exactly like CdG's Anbar. Prefer the - much cheaper - Anbar.

Re: Most "Romantic" Niche Fragrances?

Strange - it's hard for me to imagine being offended by Back To Black. It just seems so cuddly to me. :)

Ah well, given you're a Creed fan, you might like Creed's Cypres-Musc. I was expecting...

Re: Which NEW CdG's are good?? Dover St./ARTEK/Daphne Guiness/Silver Words??

I really like Hinoki and love Stephen Jones. Stephen Jones is VERY aldehydic though, more so than even famous aldehyde heavies like No. 5. Probably the closest in the designer area is White Linen,...

Re: 3x3 Blind Sniff: A Hard Day At the Head Shop

I had to leave early on sample C - I'm in SF - but I had great fun with this round. Thanks Debbborra!

On a further note, Viridian really impressed me as a fragrance. I had no idea such effects...
