Re: Serge Lutens Miel de Bois fans!

I love what it does to my hormones! Bring it on and lots of it! I love that diabetic cat spray.

***EDIT I found that I have a small bottle of Phenylacetic acid and just put a healty scoop into a...

Re: D'Orsay Revamp?

I used to be a d'Orsay addict back in the 1970s and 1980s. Fortunately, the 1990s updates weren't bad at all. I'm always surprised at how little attention the fragrance house gets on Basenotes.

Re: what is a perfume for dandy?

[QUOTE=Gus;1010342]Also taken from dandyism.net (the reference website for dandy-wannabes :-), this graph shows that there are quite a lot of dandy types, so maybe the question should be...

Re: Timbuktu - Is it really smoky and woody??

Timbuktu is one of those fragrances with me that has a volume threshold. If I put too little on, the effect is vapid and I miss all of the notes that Luca Turin raves about. Just applying a little...

Re: What's your "white tee-shirt" scent?

When I don't have the where-with-all to actually make a decision, these are the three that I usually grab to general success.

Black dress scent - Crown Marechale
Black sweater scent - Mitsouko...

Re: First Vintage.. Lancôme Cuir

If you have difficulty opening it after refrigerating it, carefully wrap the bottle and hold the neck of the steam of a boiling tea kettle. I was astounded at how well it worked on my Lanvin Pretexte.

Re: SOTD Tuesday, May 26, 2009

No SOTD for me. I'm testing a perfume base that I'm working on...getting close but not ready to move on yet.

Stuck stopper - this really worked

Last night with little drama, I got my stuck glass stopper freed from a lovely bottle Lanvin Pretexte, and here is how I did it.

Early in the day I tightly wrapped the bottle up to the neck in...

Re: I hate Guerlain

I think that it would be premature to declare that you hate all Guerlains. The variability between new and vintage, EDT, EDP and pure parfum, and the nearly 200 named scents, covers a tremendous...

Re: The cream de la creme of italian fragrances

I wish you could take me along! Lorenzo Villoresi creates exquisite and unique scents that excite the senses. There is an incredible variety; some you may find off-putting or may stimulate...

Re: Any experiences with Royall Lyme of Bermuda?

As a linear scent, it's quite nice. The lime is brisk, unambiguous and refreshing. It should be treated as any cologne, only expecting it to last briefly. A friend of mine would drop some into his...

Re: Help - Stuck Stopper!

Thanks for the recommendation. I will be very careful as I would hate to ruin this lovely boxed set.

Unhappy Help - Stuck Stopper!

My beautiful boxed set of vintage Lanvin Scandal, Pretexte and Rumeur extraits arrived and, sadly, one of the ground glass stoppers is stuck. Does anyone have an idea on the best way to free it? I'm...

Re: ... Scent for Bjork ...

I've performed for Bjork when she did a US tour awhile back and Mitsouko definitely comes to mind. Of course we in the pit could not see her on stage but backstage she seemed introspective and even a...

Re: It's all in the Frequency

My fragrances fall into three categories:

1. Those that create such a powerful emotional connection that there is almost a sense of intimacy or "knowing" the fragrance personally. These I always...

Re: Any designer frags with INTENSE strength?

Ava Luxe Loukhoum seems to last until you scrub it off. Of course, smelling like Turkish Delight candy isn't for everyone.

Re: Creed's Love In White - is it really that bad?

I agree this time with Luca Turin. It's a vile concoction, rife with artificial vanilla and sweet petro-chemicals. Imagine Estee Lauder's Pleasures in a slightly melting plastic bottle. Or, perhaps a...

Re: ♚ Royal Scents ♚

I suppose you might consider the Crown Perfumery's tendency to design fragrances for royalty. I definitely feel like I'm rubbing elbows with royalty when wearing Crown Imperial, Esterhazy, Alpine...

Re: Guerlain's Eau du Coq

I agree with those who suggest that it is more dilute than it once was. I have a little left of a very old bottle and even that is relatively fleeting but lasted long enough to appreciate its...

Re: Vol de Nuit Extrait purchase

This is the most spot-on description I have ever read about Vol de Nuit. There's something wonderfully gloomy about the minimal top notes. You are forced into sulking awhile for it to share its...

Re: Going vintage crazy

I had to sell a few things to buy a few. If all the juices are still intact, it will have been worth the sacrifice.
