Re: Going to Paris tomorrow, what to choose?

Haha :D :D :D You are so right, what should I do with Mr. G-Spouse? He loves books, wine and, well he's more into politics than art, but I guess Paris could keep him occupied for a day while I tour...

Re: Going to Paris tomorrow, what to choose?

Yes I will definitely try them out extensively while I'm there, have only worn tiny-small samples so far. And for instance, I have never smelled any of the Voyage perfumes, never Rose Barbare or Cuir...

Going to Paris tomorrow, what to choose?

Yippee! I'm going to Paris tomorrow and will revisit the Guerlain temple for the first time since the reopening in 2005. I was such a novice back then. I'm going to meet "my" SA Dominique and sniff...

Re: What is the best drydown on the planet?

My forever favourite top-to-base evolution is found in Guerlain's Chamade.

Re: S o t D, Tuesday, 17 November 2009

I am the mysterious Mr. G from now on - to avoid any confusion with other guerlainophiles :D thanks for your help, Grant!

I'm sniffing Guerlain's Nahéma...

Re: Derby After Shave

I remember that post, actually. It's possible that it was very intended to remove the Pour Homme, but if it was really meant to appeal to women, then the masculine oblong bottle was not well chosen....

Re: The Fruity Chypre

A damn pity you didn't fall for Parure. But I guess it was never as timeless as Mitsouko. Which explains why Guerlain discontinued it a few years ago. Parure was so butch! I love it for its overdose...

Re: Derby After Shave

Yeah, Derby was originally made in both EdT and aftershave. A very 1980s-like set. Or actually 1970s. Derby was all the time 10 years behind, both in scent and design. Jean-Paul Guerlain "forgot" to...

Re: The currents of Guerlain

Haha :D thanks a lot for those words! Yes maybe I should begin to approach Sylvaine Delacourte...
In a similar vein, I edited my part on the guerlinade:...

Re: Guerlain Idylle

I know it sounded like I was trying to diminish NR for Her in favour of Guerlain. I didn't mean to do that, just to say that these kinds of comparisons are in my mind quite unjust and not very...

Re: Guerlain Idylle

Full bottle, daily wearings during two weeks. To me, its top-drydown evolution is on a par with Chant d'Arômes - one of my favourites. I think that Idylle obeys most, if not all, of the "guerlinade...

Guerlain's Mitsouko (http://monsieurguerlain2.blogspot.com/2008/06/mitsouko.html) vintage extrait. Timeless.

Re: Guerlain Idylle

I really don't get how this utter delicacy can be compared to NR for her - the latter is on me a heavy fougère, quite sour, bitter and muddy, smelling like a 45 yo woman who had too many cigarettes...

Re: The currents of Guerlain

Guys and girls, I'm so thrilled you like what you saw and read. I'm quite pleased myself finally to have been able to put all my enthusiasm about Guerlain into a broader context.

kumquat: I fully...

Guerlain's Chant d'Arômes (http://monsieurguerlain2.blogspot.com/2008/06/chant-daromes.html) EdT - green, uplifting, mossy, clever.

Re: Sous le Vent

Only complaint about this evoking scent (it was also Jean-Paul Guerlain's childhood fetish, he described how it haunted him with reveries of ships and exotic islands): This IFRA compliant version...

The currents of Guerlain

I have already posted this on the men's board, but I wanted to share it with your girls too. After all, Guerlain is primarily a woman! Another reason I post it again is that I have edited the text...

Re: I want Shalimar with some serious leather

Don't know Patchouli 24 but from the description with patchouli and birch tar, it sounds like a real leather, which is not oriental. Problem is, it's a continuum. Vol de Nuit, for instance, is...

Guerlain's Habit Rouge (http://monsieurguerlain2.blogspot.com/2008/06/habit-rouge.html) l'Extrait. It struck me today how much it reminds me of Vol de Nuit extrait, of course with much more bergamot....

Re: I want Shalimar with some serious leather

PdT wasn't used for Vol de Nuit, but for the rest, yes. Not sure why Guerlain have chosen the old PdT designation for Jicky, but I'm fairly sure it doesn't change anything scent wise.

Re: Best Example of Guerlinade

Oh, by the way: I think my "thesis" about the guerlinade explains why only one of Aimé Guerlain's perfumes and "only" six of Jacques Guerlain's nearly 400 perfumes entered the classic range: These...

I wish I could say Ruggles. As you know, I'm a total imbecile regarding anything else than Guerlain :)

Re: Best Example of Guerlinade

After having explored several info sources - such as Sylvaine Delacourte's own blog - to know more about how Guerlain perceives the guerlinade, I've edited my text about the guerlinade. Basically,...
