Re: Ten new members who have an interest in sampling

The generosity of BNers is a really amazing thing. I'd love to participate in this if possible but even if I don't get picked, I just want to say a general thanks to all of you ~veterans~ who help...

Re: SL Daim Blond or Un Lys -

Another vote for Daim Blond. Un Lys is a great fragrance, whether or not you look at it as a lily solliflore (though I chose DK Gold over Un Lys in my hunt for a lily), very pretty and elegant, but...

Re: The smell of the prairie

Ha! I had to read that book for school and hated it at the time, but I get what you're trying to get at. ;) For what it's worth, my impressions of My Antonia were of her sun-browned skin skin,...

Re: Anyone know of any muddy scents

LesNez Manoumalia has a nuttiness to it that totally smells like clean, floral mud (as opposed to dirt, roots, etc).

Re: Today I sampled.....

Today, I tried Prada L'eau d'Ambree which I totally found Infusion-esque and a bit boring. Also tried YSL Parisienne, which I hated at first (holy christ that's a fruity-floral) but the middle bit...

Re: Olfactory Cleansers - What do you use?

LOL wasabi... that would knock me back on my feet.

warlandsboy, when doing marathon in-store sampling I alternate between the coffee beans and the collar of my shirt, or a scarf or something.

Re: I have no idea what vetiver smells like, lets get started...

I agree about Guerlain Vetiver being a good starter. It's probably the easiest to find and you can identify the vetiver pretty easily in it, especially after you move on to some of the others listed.

Re: Most beautful fragrance bottle(s)

Maybe not most beautiful but certainly one of the best designed imho:

Especially when grouped together, great effect:

Re: Acqua di Gio, just how common is this?

LOL Adonis!

LanEvo you're gonna have to drive out of town for a Sephora somewhere. Apparently there's one in Manteca and another in Modesto?

Re: Strawberry margarita scent?

I can't think of one fragrance that says "strawberry margarita" but I remember Demeter has a margarita scent, and they've probably got a strawberry one also. Maybe you could layer the two? It...

Re: Chanel 5 & 19

Go for both! Guys can totally pull No. 5 or No. 19 off. Also, I don't think original No. 5 is as universal as all that, especially among younger brackets and certain areas. For example, not too...

Re: Lys , Lily and Stargazer

I second Donna Karan Gold -- just wait through the spicy opening and then it's stargazers all the way! It's more directly lily-like than Un Lys, which is very nice but smoother and vanillic.

I...

Re: Secret Shame: the teenaged years

Mainly Bath & Body Works and Victoria's Secret Body Sprays (mostly the latter -- I found them deeper or "more grown up"), but to be honest I didn't really bother. I did have some kind of toxically...

Re: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

I had the same experience with BPAL as paeonyrose. I think they're basically a slightly more evolved kind of essential oil you'd find at hippie stores, carried mostly by the mystical-goth ad copy. ...

Re: first date at symphony

I think Encre Noire's a good choice. It's unusual but not too complex, so it never smells like you're trying too hard. I also think it's so dry that you won't overwhelm in close quarters. (Of...

Re: What fragrances have ISO E Super in?

Light Blue, definitely! I find Iso E harder to smell in some of the others listed above (I can't smell it in Encre Noire or Terre d'Hermes, tbh) but in Light Blue it's like some kind of Iso E...

Re: Today I Sampled...(Sep. '09)

Still looking for my HG jasmine so I finally tried Montale Jasmin Full as well as L'Artisan La Haie. The Montale's prettty good, it could stand up to a handful of jasmine sambac blossoms. Still not...

Re: The adventurer's fragrance of choice

I bought L'Air du Desert Marocain with a similar idea in mind; I think at the time I was specifically trying to plan a trek through Peru. I think that and others similar to it are perfect fragrances...
