Re: Favorite Bargain

Sometimes you'll see the testers selling really cheaply, while other times you can get a great deal over at ebay for a slightly used bottle, so it depends. One that has been around a while at super...

Re: Ungaro III

As SculptureOfSoul mentioned, the geranium is strong, and the lavender is too. Combine that with rose and I'm definitely outta there. Listen for men by Herb Alpert (which I think was also marketed...

Re: Jacomo Silver

The Silver (men's version) is a sedate frag, unlike the original and the Rouge, which have some "rough spots." I enjoy it because I find myself drawn to these kinds of frags lately. It's not...

Re: What makes a fragrance modern or classic?

I think of "modern" as beginning with the "power frags" of the 1980s. Before that, most frags could be classified easily: fougere, chypre, oriental, traditional eau de cologne, etc. Power frags...

Re: musk + vetiver

Azzaro's Silver/Black (or Onyx, same thing) is what I would reach for if that is what I wanted in the base.

Re: dark, jammy fruits/wine for fall?

Have you tried Paul Smith London for women? It's got a heavy but very pleasant dried fruit thing going on for a long while.

Re: What notes are responsible for a classy cologne

I don't like traditional Eau de Cologne type frags (citrus and herbs dominating), but my guess is that the quality of ingredients is quite important for this kind of frag.

Re: Coconut

Have you tried Emporio Armani She or Dream Angels Heavenly? I think of those as "coconutty." Fire & Ice for women is like cherry coconut to me.

Re: Coffee Time , coffee fragances

Keep in mind that if you are a lavender-phobe like me, some of these suggestions will result in olfactory torture! LOL.

Re: Ungaro III

I can't stand some of the notes in it, because they are presented too powerfully. To me, it's unbalanced and unwearable, but if you like those notes, you might really enjoy it.

Re: Any recommendations for Dior Homme!

I'm also on the fence about DH as to whether it's fully bottle worthy. It's nice, but I just don't find myself all that interested in wearing it. I wore it a couple of days ago and didn't think...

Re: Fragrance sales down 10%

I'm surprised it's not more than 10%. My guess is that people are still buying fragrances as gifts, because they can be purchased cheaply as compared to other possibilities. I do mostly swapping...

Re: Confused?

If you spray on your chest, you can fan it up with your hand to see how it's progressing, assuming you can't smell it. Another idea is to spray on the wrists, and then you can smell it up close if...

Re: Trying YSL L'Homme today

There was something about it I found revolting. It wasn't too sweet, but it was like asbestos fibers mixed with an attempt at a synthetic maple syrup gone horribly wrong. LOL.

Re: Coffee Time , coffee fragances

Mostly I've worn Jacomo Silver for men for a coffee frag, but I just started to warm up to Polo Double Black (pardon the pun!).

Re: Would vetiver work as a parfum?

Not sure about the question. What does Encre Noire represent to you? If you want something stronger in vetiver, that is never going to appeal to the masses. If you want something nicely blended,...

Re: I think I finally understand Polo Double Black, but...

Those kids may have been hitting themselves with 20 sprays per wearing though. After all, they are "trashy" kids or whatever. LOL.

Re: Which of these is closest to PPH

I'll just wear frags like Z-14, Oscar Pour Lui, Versace l'Homme, Boss #1, etc., blissfully unaware (and with a bit more cash in my pockets) of how much better PPH might be! LOL.

Re: The Sultans - Part 1

The CdG smells like some sort of import/export store to me. There's a candle wax type of thing going on too, and of course the honey. I liked it at one time, but I seem to be moving in the...

Re: I think I finally understand Polo Double Black, but...

I was guessing that this is what made LT think it wasn't very good; I think he was smelling the top notes on the "street kids" in the "trash neighborhood." I doubt he was talking about the drydown,...

Re: Tiffany for Men?

I think LT's review of Heritage speaks to this issue as well. I don't remember exactly what I didn't like about Tiffany last time I wore it precisely. It may have been the sandalwood. Someone I...

Re: Tiffany for Men?

I got led away from "men's" frags like Tiffany when I started to try "women's" orientals. I find them to be superior. It's almost like the perfumers who make "men's"" orientals are trying too hard...

Re: I think I finally understand Polo Double Black, but...

I think the opening used to put me in a bad olfactory mood, so that I couldn't enjoy the rest. LOL.

I think I finally understand Polo Double Black, but...

I still don't understand the crude, incoherent opening. However, I think I can finally appreciate the dry later stages, which feature a non-sweet vanilla, spices, woods, and a touch of coffee. It...
