Charmingly cheap! - Guerlain Insolence

Posted 10th November 2009 at 08:01 AM by Hebe

Today I'm sampling Guerlain Insolence EDP, courtesy of the lovely ubu and an embarassingly slow UK postal service.

This scent makes me smile. It makes me think of Emily Lloyd as the teenage strumpet in Wish You Were Here, with its minxy brazen hussy-ness. It puts me in mind of all those British euphemisms for girls having fun - cheap, easy, the village bike and there are plenty more that escape me this early in the day. It reminds me of the girl in every 6th form who had both the grades...

He's been working in London today. Having quietly established that he wasn't working near Les Senteurs, I got on with my day.

Phone call 1: "Guess where I am?"
Me: (hopefully) "Outside the front door?"
Mr H: "Sorry, no, but I'm outside Penhaligons and would you like anything?"
Me: (hopefully): "A sample of Amaranthine please, if they have any".
Him: "ok, gotta go"

Phone call 2, 5 minutes later:...

Corrupted memories

Posted 17th October 2009 at 12:55 PM by Hebe

So. We're talking about Ormonde Jayne Frangipane Absolut, one of my first informed fragrance purchases. I took it on my honeymoon (with one other fragrance) and loved it, wore it to work (loved it), wore it at weekends (loved it). Then, due to an error of packing and judgement, wore the tiniest spray to the hospital where my father-in-law was recovering from a heart attack. My lovely memories are now tinged with those of a sad and stressful time, with the added memory of my father-in law making...

Blythe's first perfume

Posted 7th September 2009 at 09:59 PM by Hebe

I bought my 19 month old baby girl her first perfume today. l'Occitane's Mom and Baby Water - a fairly uninspiring name for a very pretty light fragrance, with almond "butter biscuit" and "tender floral" notes. I'm crazy for almond anyway, so will help her out as 100ml is a little on the generous side for her.

I sprayed it on after her bath, a spray to her tummy and one to her hair, and she was so happy and giggly. She always snuggles in to smell my perfume. She's...

Things I learned at yesterday's Basenotes Meet

Posted 29th August 2009 at 02:26 PM by Hebe

I am not alone in a love of fragrance.
Lying in a tonne of rose petals is not as lovely as it sounds, largely due to bugs and things (Simon Constantine).
BNTBTBB do not buy ingredients from any company that tests on animals.
It must be very annoying to create a perfume for the woman of your dreams, laying your soul and your professional integrity out for your wife and the world, and then have it bought by Britney Spears. Though to be fair, there is clearly nothing wrong with her...
